On this day in 1775, the Continental Congress established the U.S. Navy. Almost 200 years later, in 1972, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt made October 13th the official birthday. Since then, each year on this day, the CNO has invoked celebration to honor the Navy's heritage. Happy 245th, @USNavy!
