First Female African American Drill Team Commander
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) recognizes African-American History Month and Capt. Lauren Glover, the first female drill commander of the United States Army Drill Team (USADT).
In an interview with The Pentagram, Glover said she is proud to walk in the steps of those African-American women who served their country against all the odd. She recalled a time when an older African-American woman hugged her and whispered in her ear, “this is why we sat on those buses.”
“I’m assuming she was sharing her experience during the Civil Rights Movement,” said Glover. “All I could do was thank her. Without her and others like her, there would be no me.”
