3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard)

Last week, Staff Sgt. Alexander Deal performed his final walk at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Originally from Columbus, GA, and serving in the U.S. Army for 12 years, Deal arrived at The Old Guard in 2017.

For the past two years, Deal has volunteered at the Tomb. His perseverance and grit motivated him to earn his Tomb Guard Identification Badge in 5 months (Badge #678), a rare feat. He served as 1st Relief Commander before being selected to serve as the Assistant Sergeant of the Guard.

Recently, Deal was invited to compete for a position in the United States Army Marksmanship Unit. He also recently competed at The Civilian Marksmanship Program National Matches, where he earned the President's Hundred Tab by placing 23rd out of 850 competitors. He is the first Tomb Guard in history to earn this tab (1 of 692).
